Follow these Amazing Ayurvedic Tips to Improve Digestion!

The ancient science of Ayurveda considers poor digestion to be at the root of all major diseases. This is what makes it all the more important to ensure your digestive system is always functioning like it should.

In this blog, we will discuss the principles of Ayurveda for good digestion. These are incredibly easy to follow and maintain, but once you do, you will notice great changes that heal your body from its current issues and keep the body safe from numerous diseases in the future.

Boost Your Digestion with these Tips

Here are some excellent yet convenient ways to get started with improving your digestion. The key is to allow the system to be restored to its natural element through these activities:

  • As soon as you wake up, drink some water - preferably warm. Doing this alone is a huge step in fixing your digestion-related issues. This is because while we sleep, our body goes into cleanup mode, collecting waste products and toxins and drinking water first thing in the morning helps remove the accumulated wastes quicker by stimulating the intestine.
  • Consume fresh-cooked and prepared food. This is one of the chief principles because freshly cooked food that is still warm helps the enzymes in our body to work faster and better.
  • Check your diet. Make sure you eat food that are “live”, such as whole grains, fresh vegetables and fruits, since these have the enzymes necessary for the proper assimilation of digested food.
  • Eat only when you feel extreme hunger. Even though people generally consider four meals in a day, according to Ayurveda, a person should only consume food when the body asks for it, i.e., when you feel really hungry. Of course, apply this principle under normal circumstances, when a person is not in the right state of mind or is extremely tired.
  • Chew your food properly. Meals should be taken as slowly as possible because slow, deliberate chewing gives our brains time to process what type of food we are eating and how much we actually need to be eating, thereby staving off overindulgence. Also, properly chewed food is much easier to digest and more nutrients end up being absorbed by our bodies.

How Water Helps Improve the Digestion Process

Water, when consumed according to Ayurvedic principles, can greatly help the digestive system. Here are a few of those rules:

  • You might already know that it is not recommended to drink lots of water just before or after a meal because it slows down digestion. However, drinking a few sips - not gulps - will help bring the digestive enzymes present in the oral cavity down to our stomach and enhance our digestive tract function, known as Agni in Ayurveda.
  • Cold water is not recommended. Drink water at room temperature because cooler water, again, retards the digestion process.
  • Drink water in small sips and take your time doing so. This is because water mixes with our saliva better this way and turns alkaline by the time it gets to our stomach. The alkaline nature is supportive of the digestion process.

To Conclude

There are also several other changes that you can make in your life that will prove beneficial in strengthening your digestive system. Once your digestive system is restored and healthy, you will notice that not only your overall health is getting better, but you have also begun to feel more energetic and happy.
