Low Sperm Count - Symptoms, Causes, and Ayurvedic Treatment

Low Sperm Count - Symptoms, Causes, and Ayurvedic Treatment

Oligospermia or low sperm count in men is a condition when the semen holds less sperm than normal. Semen, a fluid secreted when a man ejaculates during an orgasm, typically contains around 15-20 million spermatozoa (sperms) per ml.

Anything lower is considered abnormal and creates a problem in conceiving because it decreases the chances of the fusion of one of the sperms with the egg. In this post, we will list the various symptoms, causes, and ways to treat this condition using Ayurveda.

Symptoms of Oligospermia or Low Sperm Count

Given below are the most common signs of this issue -

  • Failure to establish pregnancy
  • Having a lower sex drive or related sexual conditions
  • Problems in sustaining an erection
  • Painful or swollen testicle region
  • Reduced body hair growth

Why Does this Issue Occur?

Let’s take a look at the main causes of Oligospermia -

  • The production of sperm requires proper functioning of the organs and glands that are a part of the male reproductive system, such as testes, hypothalamus, and pituitary glands. If any of these faces problems, it affects the entire complex process, low sperm count being one of the effects.
  • The sperm could be abnormal in shape or their movement.
  • Other medical conditions like obesity, infection, trauma or injury to the sexual organs could be causing this situation.
  • Exposure to certain substances in the environment, such as chemicals, metals or a type of radiation may be a reason.
  • Unwholesome lifestyle choices like drug abuse, smoking or drinking alcohol can lead to Oligospermia.
  • Genetics could be playing a part in causing this condition.
  • Anxiety, stress or psychological conditions like depression may be cause for this as well.

How to Treat Low Sperm Count the Ayurvedic Way

One must first consider the roles played by several aspects of our life in our health and well-being, such as our lifestyle, diet, and environmental factors.

  • Role of a Healthy Lifestyle - Unhealthy lifestyle choices can prove detrimental to health in a number of ways, which is why it’s essential to follow wholesome habits. It is just as important to stay away from habits that are injurious to health, like consuming too much alcohol, smoking, and taking illicit drugs.

Maintaining a normal weight is also vital not only to prevent this issue but also from a general perspective.

  • Role of a Nutritious Diet - Proper diet greatly reduces the risks of getting most health disorders and maintains a person’s health. Keep your diet balanced so that it supplies adequate nutrition to the body and keeps disease at bay.

Why Choose Ayurvedic Treatment

Modern treatment is undoubtedly available and rather effective, but it comes with the risk of side effects, which may also create problems of a different kind in the future. On the other hand, making diet and lifestyle changes along with the introduction of a few herbal remedies as prescribed in Ayurveda is much safer and reliable.
